Seabrook was founded in 1903, primarily as a fishing village. Though the residential population of the town was only a few hundred strong, Seabrook immediately had something the surrounding area wanted – a school! The Seabrook school eventually grew into the award winning Clear Creek Independent School District (CCISD).
Seabrook remains a small town to this day with a population of about 13,000. Shipping and fishing have long been the established industry of the town, but Seabrook is also known for its extensive trail system, natural beauty, and arts and culture.
The city features an extensive trail system built from crushed granite, which connects most of the city's parks, including Robinson and Pine Gully Parks. The trail system traverses habitats for a wide variety of wildlife. Are residents enjoying biking, walking, and running these trails, which are home to the Lucky Shamrock Marathon each March.
Anyone who visits Seabrook will see the beautiful painted pelican statues that sit stoically in front of many local businesses and places of interest. The goal of the Pelican Path Project was to show the connectedness of the city by its many restaurants, antique shops, bed and breakfasts, water attractions and its unique downtown of small businesses. Most businesses in Seabrook have bought a pelican from Pelican Project and had it customized to their needs in order to not only represent their business, but also the city of Seabrook. Incredible artists from all over the state of Texas who have participated in this project have attracted future plans for more cultural art projects in Seabrook.
Real pelicans can be found in Seabrook as well. Located on one of the largest migratory paths in North America, and recognized as a bird sanctuary, Seabrook is home to both the brown and white pelicans.
In addition to the city being designated as a bird sanctuary, the city includes four sites on the Great Texas Coastal Birding Trail. The only other site in the Clear Lake area on this Texas trail is the Armand Bayou Nature Center.
